JETHRO TULL/WAR CHILD CHR 1067 (-74) UK

I rediscovered this recently and am amazed how well it has stood the test of time. Not that it's modern or even remotely trendy. The strength lies in ageless attributes as intelligent lyrics and well written melodies, qualities that never get dated. Previous album - the dark, adventurous "Passion Play" - did sell a lot (#1 in US and #13 in UK) but was a critical disaster, initiating rumors that the band was breaking up. This follow-up, over a year later, shows they were as forward as ever. Impression is the result of coherent studio recordings, but it's actually a patchwork containing ideas and cuts from earlier wrecked projects mixed with a couple of new ones. Anyway the final outcome is a top notch LP, containing two of their strongest tracks ever (at least IMO for now) - title track and "Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of A New Day". They both have all the ingrediences that makes songs iconic in my world - catchy tunes, poetic expression, odd arrangements and tons of feeling. Same goes for the entire album, so if you're fed up with the thefts and reproductions that rules the music business today and feel the need for an original piece of art this is highly recommended. First US had a slightly different inner design, otherwise same as UK. 1999 US remastered CD issued by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (UDCD 745). Japan 2003 CD on Chrysalis (TOCP-67182) came with seven bonus tracks. Premiere UK had label as shown here and glossy cover with black lyric inner. (YÖHT*)
