IGGY POP/THE IDIOT PL 12275 (-77) UK

Since co-written with and produced by Bowie, backed by his band, mixed by Tony Visconti and an alleged part of Bowie's Berlin period the emphasis here has often been on him rather than Iggy. Also most reviewers agree it was different to his Stooges efforts and therefore a new chapter. If you go with all that it's easy to hear it as just another part of the contemporary Bowie machinery and be content with that, but I can't. When listening to it just after Stooges debute it's clear the LP:s have a lot in common. Even if this comes out somewhat darker and slower, I'm getting the same flavor and feeling. Many of the songs could easily have fit on an earlier album if just treated a little differently . So even if Bowie was a prominent part and some of the atmosphere oozes late seventies Berlin, it still brings me close to late sixties Detroit and the old band. Favorite tracks "Dum Dum Boys" and "Mass Production". Issued and reissued on all possible formats all over the world through the years. First US on RCA Victor (APL1-2275). Premiere UK had label as shown here and thin matt cover. This copy also has a lyre stamped on side one matrix. As I understand meaning it was mastered by company called Utopia and that only used for the first press. Whether that also means the audio here is better than from later masterings I can't say, but it is smashing. (ÅGGÅ*)
