GRAHAM NASH DAVID CROSBY SD 7220 (-72) US

Sometimes when I'm drawn into a record it's as much for the audio as the music itself. If it hit my ears with the perfect blend of strength and clarity, giving an all over natural impression I can almost forget about the songs involved and just enjoy the connection. This has that kind of audio, but luckily also lots of good music. After Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young broke up the members continued solo or by gathering new bands, Nash and Crosby got together again 1971 as a duo for a couple of concerts and subsequently also recorded this studio LP. With just two from the famed quartet I thought I'd miss Young's edge or Stills' song writing, but I don't hear much loss at all. A couple of very good songs, performed with help from Jerry Garcia and Dave Mason among others. Six written by Nash and five by Crosby, all engaging but if I had to choose it'd be the Nash ones. Especially "Southbound Train", "Frozen Smiles" and "Immigration Man" - all lovely pieces. Now back to the audio. As the US release had early press at at least four different plants it's hard to find the best for a non-American, but this is guaranteed superduper - very natural giving a being-there feeling. And as it has the "RI" as label matrix suffix and "PR" on dead vinyl with both etched matrix no:s ending on -1, it can be deduced as an early copy from Philips Recording Company in Richmond, Indiana. Issued and reissued on all possible formats all over the world through the years. First (?) US had label as shown here and multi fold/out die-cut cover with lyric inner. (ZHÄ*) (YZÄ*)
