MATT MONRO/LOVE IS THE SAME ANYWHERE PCS 3020 (-61) UK STEREO
Although not entirely recogniced by the western audience of popular music in the sixties and seventies, Londoner Monro was one of the most popular entertainers on the international scene from early sixties to his death 1985. He had top sales not only in UK and US, but also in Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa and the Middle East, and filled arenas throughout. Clearly influenced by American crooner tradition with a velvet, very secure voice - everything sung straight-on, no wailing or quirks. A little like Sinatra, but with a Bing Crosby sentiment. Although I'm impressed by the vocals this is not the music I usually collect. The reason I'm keeping it is the high quality recording and stereo mix. Made with top-of-the-line EMI studio fifties equipment it has a warmth and autenticity that is unheard on todays CD:s or down-loads. That's the way it was made back then and in this case accompanied by a carefully done stereo mix and perfect pressing. Produced and arranged by his friend George Martin with orchestra conducted by Johnnie Spence (who also worked with Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, Gilbert O'Sullivan and Ella Fitzgerald among others). All together it's a fine package. Also issued in mono (PMC 1151). First press with label as shown here and stiff, laminated flip/back cover. (MÖRS*)(FÖGÄ*) (PÖX*) (GCÖ*)
