T.REX/BOLAN BOOGIE HIFLY 8 (-72) UK

One of my darling compilations. Issued by Fly records after Bolan left to form his own label. It could be called "Best of...vol. 2" since it's the same kind of mix of regular LP tracks and obscure single cuts as on the Flyback -71 "Best of..." issue (see earlier post). While that had emphasis on the Tyrannosaurus Rex era this has more from the T.Rex incarnation, but both are from the same transitional period. To my taste it has some of his best tracks. "Hot Love" is an obvious killer, but also "The King Of The Mountain Cometh", an odd semi-acoustic cover of "Summertime Blues", "Ride A White Swan" and my favorite - the three-folded "Raw Ramp". All recordings produced by Tony Visconti 1969-71. The album was initially a big seller in England, pushing "Machine Head" from the #1 spot. No original US issue, but had later release on Cube records in many other countries. 1:st UK on Fly records had label as shown here, stiff matt cover with blue fonts on "pinched" spine and fly inner. In May 1972 during first release of the album Fly label was shelved and replaced with "Cube Records", which kept most of the old catalog. So only the very first pressing of this is on Fly, the rest on Cube with a slightly different sleeve design. (RÄX*)(PÖP*) (FXÖ*)
