JR WALKER AND THE ALL STARS/HOME COOKIN' TML 11097 (-69) UK MONO
Their music hadn't changed much since the "Shotgun" issue four years earlier (see previous post) - blues based raw dance tunes, suitable for small joints. May seem dated to some, but for us who heard it back then it's a welcome blast from the past . I am amazed by the perfect mono sound of this UK issue. If you check my earlier posts on late English Tamla Motown monos it's clear up to a certain point most of them were separate mixes at a time no stock monos were released in US. Non of them sound like promos, more like average UK - big, bold with prominent bass. I know also '45 issues differed sometimes - an exemple is the UK Edwin Starr "War" mono single wich had another edit than US - but not sure where they were made. Maybe the monos were prepared in US by habit for eventual use on '45:s or promos, or the UK engineers was free to make their own mixes. If anyone here knows for sure, please comment and tell! (TÖMÖ*)
