GEORGE HARRISON/WONDERWALL MUSIC SAPCOR 1 (-68) UK

Soundtrack to a psychedelic movie starring Jane Birkin and Jack MacGowran, directed by Joe Massot (who among other things also made Led Zeppelin's concert film "The Song Remains The Same"). Never seen this on a big screen myself, but it seems interesting so I'd like to very much. Probably more important to the Beatles fan and collector is it was the first album released on the Apple label and also the first solo album by any of The Beatles. I'm very impressed by the huge and comprehensive article about it on Wikipedia, covering about everything you need to know about anything even remotely connected, so if you want more details it's highly recommended - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderwall_Music . Though it is a soundtrack, when listening today I'm trying to skip that framing, just hear it as a regular psych album and see if it has anything to offer. And it has...in a way. You could call it patchy, but that goes for a large number of contemporary psych offerings. Mixing sitar/tabla tracks with ragtime, rock and pure experimental isn't unheard of from those times. Personally I would have prefered a little less Indian input and more of the other, but it is what it is and that blend at least allows it to be called an early world music album. On the plus side - "Ski-ing" has some really good guitars by Harrison and Eric Clapton and "Party Seacomb" a very pleasant slow rocker slightly reminding of Beatles "Flying". I like the fact that also Ringo appears on drums here and there, but most of all that it is Harrison spreading his wings on the very first Apple LP. Not one I play a lot...just knowing it's there is enough. Issued and reissued on all possible formats all over the world through the years. First US on Apple (ST 3350). Japan 2018 CD on Apple/Universal came with three bonus tracks, including "The Inner Light". Premiere UK (also as mono APCOR 1) had label as shown here in a fully laminated cover with pcture/credit insert and black inner. (ÄPLÄ*) (BÄ*) (GÄÖ*)

  1. Could you make a CDr of the Mono version of Wonderwall Music by George Harrison? There are subtle differences between it and the stereo version, which I already have.

    1. Sorry John, don't own a mono W or have the equipment to make a CDr.

But it's very interesting what you say that there are differences between the mono and stereo which could mean they are separate mixes.

Would love to find a mono and make a comparison and if I do it will be posted here ASAP.
