STANLEY KUBRICK'S CLOCKWORK ORANGE/MUSIC FROM THE SOUNDTRACK K 461 27 (-71) UK

The movie a timeless masterpiece that immediately became a huge success and still today feels urgent and up-to-date. A soundtrack like this can invite you back to reminisce certain scenes and/or feelings you had when watching and that's good enough. But is the LP good enough even if heard disentangled from the movie? Most of the cuts are excerpts from known classical pieces, either picked from Deutche Grammophone recordings or made specially for the film. Those doesn't do it for me as you can find them unabridged and/or better from other sources. I do like getting the MGM soundtrack version of Gene Kelly doing "Singin' In The Rain" and "Timesteps" is quite adventurous orchestral psych with a doomsday feeling. But what I appreciate most is the two cuts - "Overture To The Sun" and "I Want To Marry A Lighthouse Keeper" - from Sunforest's very rare one-off LP "Sound Of Sunforest" (Deram DN/SDN 7). Never seen that original in real life and here I can at least listen to a small part issued close to the fact on vinyl. So for me a mixed bag of sour and sweet with enough good for keeps. Issued and reissued on every possible format all over the world through the years. First US on Warner Bros. (BS 2573). EU CD on W.B. (7599-27256-2) came with an eight page booklet. Not sure if this UK was the absolutely first, but it's early. It came with label as shown here in a glossy cover. (ZÖNT*)
