TEN YEARS AFTER/A SPACE IN TIME CHR 1001 (-71) UK

Their seventh album and the first after moving from Deram to Chrysalis in UK. All songs are self-penned and the chord changes and performance follows the same procedure as before, but the style is softer with more slow numbers and psych effects. First I thought the cooler approach had to do with the label change and maybe new studio crew and location, then I saw the conditions was about the same as for the much heavier 1970 "Watt". Both recorded at Olympic studios - co-produced with Chris Wright and using Chris Kinsey as engineer. So the move from blues/rock to a more pop oriented style was with all certainty a group strategy and it worked very well, making this one of their best selling LP:s and spawning a hit single - "I'd Love To Change The World". The audio is just fine - less dense than on the Deram albums, but crisper with better separation. I'm more into their heavier stuff, but like the overall TYA feeling and Alvin Lee's vocals. Favorite tracks - "One Of These Days" and "Let The Sky Fall". First US on Columbia (KC 30801). Premiere UK had label as shown here with "i" on top and thin matt cover. (XYÄ*)
