AL STEWART/ZERO SHE FLIES S 63848 (-70) UK
His third album. The previous "Love Chronicles" became a minor breakthrough and this is on the same path with catchy melodic tunes and lyrics about his lovelife blended with reflections on social matters. All ten songs are self penned, whereof four guitar instrumentals. It's a bit more adventurous than "Chronicles", with small stains of folk or blues and also more confident - probably all due to the backing crew. That included classically scooled guitarist Georg Hultgreen (later renamed Kajanus), Trevor Lucas and Gerry Conway - both playing in Fotheringay at the time, Louis Cennamo then about to enter Colosseum and legend Duffy Power from Alexis Korner collaborations. Duffy Power does awesome mouth-harp all through "My Enemies Have Sweet Voices", making it the best track, and parts of the instrumentals have very advanced guitar play, probably by Hultgreen. The audio is clear, distinct and very natural. Don't know of any US issue before the 2007 thirteen track Collector's Choice CD (CCM-767). Premiere UK had label as shown here and matt fold/out cover with lyrics inside. (SYSÖ*)
