THE GROOP/WOMAN YOU'RE BREAKING ME SBP-233460 (-67) AUSTRALIA

For background also check post on the combo's eponymous debute LP. This third was released following their up to then highest charter on the Australian list - the "Woman You're Breaking Me" 45 - which apart from reaching #6 also earned them a trip to UK and a trial for the British market. They got a contract with British CBS, but the song chosen by the label for first UK single - a translation of an Italian love ballad "What's The Good Of Goodbye " - didn't sell and they returned to Australia. After just two more singles up to 1969 the band broke up, making this their last original album. To me almost as enjoyable as the debute. Somewhat softer, yet with enough rude parts to make it good garage - "I'll Be Damned" violent with backward guitars, "Sorry" with its doomsday fuzz and "Thinkin' Bout The Things" hard and messy. Add some prominent organ here and there and it's enough to keep me alert. A little uneven and the audio on this stereo could have been clearer, but maybe the mono carries it better. Let's see if I live long enough to spot one of those in a local bin. Released in Australia only. Not issued this way on CD, but the 1989 "The Best And The Rest 1965-69" (463480 2) has most of the cuts. No clue where this copy stands timewise, but guess it's rather early with label as shown here and laminated cover. (ÖGÄ*) (DÖW*)
