EDWIN STARR & BLINKY/JUST WE TWO TML 11131 (-70) UK MONO

Sondra Williams, with background in church quires and gospel, recorded for Vee-Jay and Atlantic before moving to Motown and taking artist name "Blinky". She did a bunch of '45:s for the label, non of them very successful, before she got the the opportunity to do this duet album with one of the labels upcoming stars. There were big expectations on the album, but Motown didn't push it at all as they did with other duet couples and it sank rather quickly while the '45 "Oh How Happy" only reached #92. For Starr, who just had a #6 single and soon would top the lists with "War", it may just have been another day at work, but for Williams it was disappointing and she left the label shortly after, returning to gospel and work as background singer. The record has good performances, best with the more powerful tracks as "We'll Find A Way" and "I See A Rainbow", and should have done better with more support. US first on Gordy 1969 (GS 945). This UK mono sounds beautiful, strong and clear with perfect balance and prominent base. To my knowledge never issued as any kind of US mono, so this UK is with all certainty a fold from a perfect compatible. First UK 1970 (also as stereo STML 11131) had label as shown here in a laminated flip/back cover. (TÖMÖ*)(UKÖ*)(YMÖ*)(FÄV*)
