HOLLIES SING HOLLIES PCS 7092 (-69) UK

After Graham Nash leaving the group a year earlier and since I wasn't very fond of the Dylan cover LP, I hesitated about getting this album. All tracks self-penned without Nash, and his replacement Terry Sylvester co-writer of six. As a Hollies fan and creature of habit I had my worries. But with first listen I surrendered. It's business as usual - good songs, well played with top vocals, and the style is almost back to -67. Ron Richards production and the minimal use of limiting and compression gives it a very clear and natural sound, reminding of their earlier UK mono issues. String arrangements made by Johnny Scott (who also worked with Beatles, Tom Jones and many others) and Alan Tew (British composer and conductor). Fav track "Why Didn't You Believe?" , melodic with heavy guitar backing and tempo changes. First US was re-named "He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother" (Epic BN 26538) , including that UK '45, but omitting "Soldiers Dilemma" and "Marigold/Gloria Swansong". US issue did well, peaking at #32 while the UK didn't chart at all. This premiere UK issue doesn't make sense. The matt f/o cover says 69/11 release, wich could co-incide with a black/yellow label, but the date on the label is 1970 and all 1970 labels are black/silver. Maybe a typing error, I don't know.
