BILLY BOND/LA PESADA DEL ROCK AND ROLL 12.959 (-71) MONO ARGENTINA

Group and album part of the Argentine rock tradition - "Rock Nacional". It can be described as a movement with its roots in the sixties, when local bands started and developed a slightly different branch to the rock tree. The changes in genres and style goes parallel with American and English rock, always with a kind of domestic touch. While US rock was formed out of the blues and typical English owed a lot to burlesque and music hall, this also had influence from Argentine folk music. It's far from tango or traditional latin, still rude rock'n'roll, just a bit more direct and emotional than the anglo saxon type. This is a stunning album. A mix of hard rock, prog and psych with amazing guitar work - heavy riffs, howling psych, jazzy licks, octave play or just slow blues - solid backing with big base and all lyrics in Spanish. I don't understand a word, but surrender 100%. Argentina was one of the countries still mixing, producing and issuing albums in both mono and stereo 1971. This is the mono and it's smashing - incredibly wide and big with a clear natural sound and perfect separation. Never heard a stereo, but I doubt it can compete with this. To my knowledge only issued in Argentina. Early release with label as shown here and matt fold/out cover. (SÖMI*)
