OLA & THE JANGLERS/SURPRISE SURPRISE GP 9928 (-67) STEREO SWEDEN

For background check previous post on the mono. This has to be one of the strangest double issues ever. First release came 1965 in mono only on Gazell. The stereo showed up two years later on Sonet's budget label Grand Prix through a distribution deal, while the band's original releases remained on Gazell. Front sleeve kept the facial image, but with the group/title logo in a more pop art design, and also deleted the band pics on rear for the custom Grand Prix layout. All cuts are true stereo mixes, some with different edits. For some reason they added extra vocals to some of the tracks which make them appear unnatural - e.g. title song sounds downright ugly to my ears. The audio is OK though weak in comparison to the mono. Don't know if the two-channel was an unissued remain from 1965 not considered good enough for a first release, or remixed as an "update". In any case it's not even close to the original in power or dynamics. It's sad to think that from 1967 on this has been the main proof of their debute. I hereby call for an immediate release of the mono tapes on vinyl and CD, so everyone can enjoy it the way it was meant to be. First stereo issue had label as shown here and fully laminated cover.
