THE GREATEST HITS OF IKE & TINA TURNER HAC 8248 (-65) UK MONO
A collection of recordings made for Sue label 1960-63, consisting of seven A-sides and a few album tracks. The backing and production sounds rather average for the period, what attracts me most about it is Tinas singing. If You only heard her late sixties stuff with Ike or the solo hits this is a good way to check the beginnings. Through the years she has gained matureness and control to that powerful vox, but here it's just pure naked energy, uninhibited and without afterthought - a young girl with unschooled voice giving 100%. If recorded today it would be directed, modulated and processed to fit record industry expectations and soothing airplay, but that wasn't the method back then. They just did what they could with what they had and hoped for the best. And it was quite successful - of their first seven singles five reached top ten on US R&B list and four top 50 on Billboard. This compilation had its premiere release on US Sue label (LP 1038). First UK issue with ridged "plum" label as shown here and laminated cover. Has all original '45 mixes. Sound quality is shifting depending on how the recordings were made. (FÄV*)(FÖGÄ*)

Hello, do you know if "River Deep-Mountain High" published in 1966 on london UK is a true mono mix ? Catalog number is HAU.8298 and the record is also part of american series. thanks
SvaraRaderaNever heard it so I don't know, but since it's as early as 1966 that would be my guess. As almost all UK buyers were into mono back then I don't think a fold would have done it.
