THE SHADOWS/DANCE WITH THE SHADOWS 33SX 1619 (-64) UK MONO

Couldn't resist posting this next to the Marvin, Welch & Farrar debute. The Shadows third solo LP (without Cliff Richard). Setup is the same as most of their albums - a bulk of cover versions with a couple of selfpenned songs thrown in, two or three vocals and the rest instrumentals. In comparison with M,W&F it's like different species - this is simple, perky and straight on, made with lots of good humor. Even with seven years apart It's hard to imagine they're from the same core...but maybe not impossible. One of the cuts - the Welsh/Marvin composition "That's The Way It Goes" - is tophole vocal pop. A haunting melody with beautiful harmonies and a (too) short falsetto twist towards the end that could cause goosebumps. Beatle quality, yet special. It was included on the "Dance With The Shadows (no.2)" EP, but not relesed as a single in UK. Early sixties pop at its best and at least a small token of what was to come. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH-X7NHVwPI . US Shadows albums came with other trackings and cover desuigns. "That's The Way It Goes" and a few others from this appeared on "The Shadows Know !!!" (Atlantic SD/8097). Also as UK stereo (SCX 3511). First press had label as shown here - with both "SOLD IN UK..." and "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1964" - in laminated flip/back cover. (FÖGÄ*)(CXÄ*)
