ERIC BURDON & THE ANIMALS/WINDS OF CHANGE E 4484 (-67) US MONO
When I bought this it was just for the sturdy fold/out cover with an image inside not present on the UK issue https://monolover.blogspot.com/2013/05/eric-burdon-and-animalswinds-of-change.html . Since the UK has the same matrix number as US (MG 1050-1/MG 1051-1, US etched/UK stamped) I didn't expect any difference at all, but they are two very unsimilar animals. As far as I can hear both are from the same original tapes with no altering in transitions or fades. There ends the similarities. The UK is louder and more offensive, has bigger bass all through and amazing clarity. In comparison the US sounds softer and wider giving a cool, almost laid-back impression. Don't think that means the UK version got another mix. It's probably just from different use of tools in the process between tape and engraving. Each has its pros. As the US is more relaxed it fits the acid atmosphere in some of the cuts better. The UK on the other hand will hit you like a steamroller, shove it in and hold you down till it's over. Non of them bad, so which you prefer is a matter of taste, or maybe just what mood you're in at the moment. I need both, but if I had to choose it would be the UK because of the power and clarity. First US had label as shown here and thick fold/out stickered cover. (YZÄ*) (ÖXCÅ*) (ÄNÄ*) (CPYC*)
