MUNGO JERRY/ELECTRONICALLY TESTED DNLS.3020 (-71) UK

Group evolving from sixties combo "Good Earth" (see earlier post) when Ray Dorset and Colin Earl recruited new members. In May 1970 they relesased "In The Summertime" wich became a world wide classic, topping the UK charts for seven weeks and getting to #1 spot in 26 other countries. The '45 has today sold in excess of 30 million copies. 1995 a cover of the song, made by raggae artist Shaggy, also topped lists all over the world. They had their best years in the early seventies with eight UK hits up to 1974. Group has continued since through different setting and styles, but never reached the really big sales again. Last UK entry was "Support The Toon - It's Your Duty" at #57 1999. The eponymous debute album did not include "In The Summertime", but this second does plus another #1 - "Baby Jump". It's not a pop album as such. More like skiffle, jug band and blues with simple tunes and friendly performance. Apart from bass/drum/guitar setting it also has banjo, kazoo, harp and recorder. This isn't wild horses or eagles flying high - more like an old faithful dog at your feet. Originally released by Dawn label in England. Issues on different labels in other countries, some with alternate cover and tracking. First UK with label as shown here and matt fold/out cover with sticker.  (DÖNL*)
