TEN YEARS AFTER/WATT SML 1078 (-70) UK

It was their last original recording for Deram before moving to Chrysalis (Columbia in US). Later on the appearance would be lighter and more pop-orientated, leading to bigger sales. This is still old-school raw white blues with some jazzy licks and a darkish atmosphere. Style and composing reminds of earlier LP:s - heavy and melodic with stunning guitar parts. If some of the previous albums had moments of trial and error, here everything fits. Maybe I could have done without the "Sweet Little Sixteen" live cut from Isle of White. Not because it's bad, but the remaining seven studio tracks are so great I would have preferred another like that. I still play it a lot and if somebody ask me about "white blues" this is one of the albums defining the concept, showing how good it can be. Co-produced by the band and Chris Wright. First TYA LP to be issued in stereo only, but the mix is very dense and pushing the mono button makes little difference. First US on Deram (XDES 18050). Early UK with label as shown here, matt fold/out cover and poster with face pics. (XYÄ*)(DÄRR*)
