TELEVISION/ADVENTURE K 52072 (-78) UK

Their second and last original album. Although it's a great record it doesn't reach the marvelling status of the debute (see earlier post). The songs and guitars are great and the audio just fine, but there's something missing. On "Marquee Moon" you get the impression of directness and honesty to a point you almost forget there's a record involved. It's like listening to a fantastic concert. Here apparently there was more studio work, overdubs, second takes and planning ahead. I don't think it fits. If you put a straight jacket on a free spirit the behaviour may change appropriately, but something very important gets lost. It's still a very good LP and I don't think they could have done bad even if they tried, but I'm sure the outcome would have been even better with less afterthought and more free reins. Initially it sold even worse than the debute in US, but did a lot better in Europe peaking at #7 in UK. Premiere US issue on Elektra (6E-133) with lyric/credit inner. 1:st UK on limited edition red vinyl with label as shown here, thin glossy cover and lyric/credit sheet.

  1. Hello. Glad to see there are fellow Television fans out there! You might be interested to know that Adventure was not their last album. They actually got back together in the early 1990s and released an album simply called 'Television' on Capitol Records. It was a fully official release and quite good too. Lots of excellent songs and great guitar playing. I'm sure you can get more information about it if you check on the discogs.com website. It has a mostly white cover with some designs on it if I remember correctly.

    1. Thanks for pointing that out. I wrote "last original album" wich was a negligent description...and wrong. Of course even the 1990 one is an original. I should have called it last of the period or something like that. Haven't heard that final, but if it's even close to the two first I will pick it up as soon as possible.

      Cheers/Erik
