NRBQ S 63653 (-69) UK

One of the most prominent US live bands, playing various stages as main name or support to other acts from the late sixties up to this day. A phenomena much reminding of Grateful Dead or Rolling Stones - roots in classic rock and blues, name existing through decades and different settings, followed by faithful group of fans. Although early on hailed by critics and counting admirers as Paul McCartney, Keith Richards and Bob Dylan, they never had a big hit record and is still rather unknown by the public outside US. This was their debute LP. I've listened to it a lot lately, but don't feel it 100%. In retrospective it's an OK exemple of US late sixties music with elements from country, blues and classic rock. There's two outstanding tracks, both covers - a borderline hard rock version of Eddie Cockran's "C'mon Everbody" and Sun Ra's "Rocket Number 9" transfered to psych. The rest is quite ordinary American country style rock, well played with tons of good will, but IMO not reaching up to contemporary The Band or Al Kooper. Early US on Columbia (CS 9858). First UK had label as shown here, thick vinyl and laminated mono cover with stereo sticker. UK mono copies may exist, but I've never seen or heard of one.
