SANDY DENNY/SANDY ILPS 9207 (-72) UK

I sometimes hesitate posting my most emotional albums here, afraid I wont do them justice. It's impossible to describe a pure feeling and musical connection is something very personal. This LP has followed me for decades and integrated to moods and situations. Not counting issues of her sixties recordings for Saga label, it was her second solo album. To my ears it's a perfect piece of art. Eight of the ten songs are self-penned - all soft and melodic, yet catchy with a kind of built in sadness - sung by a voice so beautiful it can make grown men cry. The backing has lots of friendly skill - Richard Thompson, Dave Swarbrick, Trevor Lucas and Pat Donaldson from Faiport Convention/Fotheringay combos, background vocals by Linda Thompson and Sneky Pete Kleinow doing some very good steel guitar. Arrangements made by legends Allen Toussaint and Harry Robinson are exactly on the spot - sensitive and perceptive to the songs without meddling or changing direction. I guess Trevor Lucas didn't have to do much producing - just keeping it real. Favorite track - "Listen, Listen". This UK first press has perfect audio - clear and natural, giving an authentic feel. Early US on A&M Records (SP 4371). Premiere issue had label as shown here with "STEREO" print, matt fold/out cover and blue Island custom inner. (BRYF*)(FÄV*) (FÄHZ*)
