THE WORLD OF THE TORNADOS SPA 253 (-72) UK

For group history and more - check separate post on their 1963 UK LP "Away From It All" http://monolover.blogspot.se/search?q=tornados . While that had exclusive recordings and didn't include any of the band's many single cuts, the US release ("The Sound Of The Tornadoes" London LL3279) concentrated solely on the '45:s - never originally issued on album in UK. Tornados belonged to the first generation of British pop and as they were being outmaneuvered by merseybeat and r&b Decca lost interest and put them aside. It took almost a decade before the label decided to release a compilation of their earliest '45:s, then as a part of the "World Of..." serie. It's a twelve track, consisting of eight A-sides and the rest B:s recorded between 1962-64 - all produced by Joe Meek who also wrote most of them. Even if long overdue it was a good deed making the tracks available again for old fans who couldn't find the rare singles or the US LP. The back cover says - "Mono recording electronically reprocessed to give stereo effect on stereo equipment". That means trouble in most cases, but this turned out pretty good. Compared to mono some parts are enhanced and others have slightly differing balance, but never sounding akward or disturbing and pushing the mono button makes it a-okay. First had label as shown here and laminated cover. (WÖF*)(FÖGÄ*)
