German version of the UK "Direct Hits" compilation (see earlier posts), having different title and sleeve design but same tracking sequence. Indubitably from the same tapes though the audio is much better here - wider and clearer on a steadier foundation. Neither UK mono or stereo come close in quality. In fact if somebody told me this was the original and the UK:s made second hand that would make perfect sense. It would explain the better audio on this, and also present the best key to why both UK formats are fake. The odd mix of stereoish and more or less enhanced mono on a "stereo" issue would also fit the German makings a lot more at the time as the British still did true monos on regular basis 1968 and guessably would have done so here too if it'd been an original, which would have made the UK mono true and only part of the stereo version fake. So better listening than any of those on this, but don't expect miracles. Most of the cuts were badly recorded even for their time, so the best you could hope for on an early vinyl compilation is OK...and this is. (PÖP*) (GÖXÄ*) (WÖH*)
