DAG VAG SRS 4656 (-79) SWEDEN

Swedish outfit initiated 1978 by former Träd, Gräs & Stenar producer/studio engineer/roadie Stig Vig (born Per-Åke Odeltorp 1948-2012). From the start a solo project as "Dag Vag och svagsinta" (Dag Vag and the weak-minded). After releasing a couple of private press self-founded 45:s, then reaching a kind of cult status, a band was formed and they got a contract with the independent Silence label. This was their first album and the beginning of a journey that eventually would make them one of Swedens best selling bands in the eighties. In a way it's an enigma. The motor Stig Vig himself learned to play and write songs while doing a four year sentence for selling drugs. All the time struggling with bad health he wasn't a looker or a singer - the vocals more talking than melodic - and the music an odd mix of punk, reggae, ska and schlager. Still they managed to become a household name and genuinely loved by a large public. On this debute you can already hear why it worked out so fine - well performed ska-punk carrying simple catchy melodies and honest lyrics talk-sung by Vig's personal voice. An odd blend of slightly dangerous and very friendly, enabling contact from both sides of the fence. Sounds like at least partly recorded live in the studio. The audio is marvellous - very loud, clear and natural. Favorite tracks - the Fugs cover "Jag Blev Inte Hög" (I Couldn't Get High), "Sanningens Slverflod" (Silver River Of Truth)a version of a Träd Gräs & Stenar song, and "Vad Spelar Det För Roll?" (What Does it Matter?). Album released in Sweden only. 2008 remastered CD on Ball (BASCD 4802) came with five non-LP 45 cuts as bonus tracks. Premiere issue had label as shown here, either on black or clear vinyl, and thin matt cover. (SCÄ*) (CCÖ*) (NÅY*)
