MELANIE/STONEGROUND WORDS NHTC 251 (-72) UK
For me, who's first aquaintance with her came through the immediately embracing "What Have They Done To My Song Ma?" and the "Ruby Tuesday" cover, this didn't work at all 1972. I wanted my Melanie direct and catchy and couldn't hear enough of her flaunting that very sexy voice. Instead here I got heavily arranged baroque ballads and smooth jazzy parts conveying grown-up reflections on life. It's clear I wasn't ready for that as a nineteen year old, but today at sixtyfour I feel a lot more in sync, appreciating the mature viewpoints and elaborate arrangements. It's not the easiest to get in to, no evident hits and nothing directly grasping. As a whole more of a comfortable journey without too many bumps on the road. You may have to take it several times to get to know all stations, but when you do it feels good all the way. So if you're not afraid of a project that eventually will turn in to something warmly rewarding this comes highly recommended. My favorite tracks - the playful "Between The Roadsigns" and the lounge jazzy "Here I Am". Originally issued on Neighborhood Records in US, Canada, Japan, Downunder and all over Europe. UK 2015 CD on Morello Records (MRLL 45) came with two bonus tracks. Premiere UK had label as shown here and book style "pocket" sleeve with lyric inner and five-pic fold/out poster. (FÄV*)

The thing with Melanie in the U.S.A. was that, seemingly with the release of "Brand New Key", with which she had a major Top 40 hit, she lost the support of the progressive rock audience which then categorized her as teeny-bop fodder.
SvaraRaderaYeah that will happen when you get a catchy world wide million seller toppning lists all over the world. Thanks again Steve!
