Probably the most generous period compilation of sixties hits on vinyl. You get exactly what the title say, all mono and as I guess captured from the original tapes. A mix of black and white, ranging over a vast territory - pop, soul, psych, rock and comedy in differing tempos. Audio shifts a lot - from very good to rather bad - so not all fitting for close listening, but beacause of its magnitude unbeatable as background to sixties parties, happy chores or just reminiscing. At the moment I have record 1/side1 on and just heard Little Eva "Locomotion", Percy Sledge "When A Man Loves A Woman", Coasters "Poison Ivy", now playing Toys "Lovers Concerto" and waiting for Little Anthony, Lee Dorsey and Drifters. Not all of those with top sound though good enough to cause smiles and foot-tapping. Grading this collection from size and musical content it's five stars with a plus attached while the audio as a whole would get two or so. So if You're an audio freak leave it be, but if You don't care deeply about press quality, balance or separation and just want an abundance of catchy songs to enjoy it's worth a try. To my knowledge this was the only issue. The four records come with differently colored labels - green, blue, red and yellow - wrapped in a hard box with glossy surface. (YZÄ*) (SÄM*)
