BLACK SABBATH/WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCK'N'ROLL 6366 116 (-76) ITALY
Italian version of this, by now classic, Sabbath compilation. Released as a single LP only, without any company inner or special inserts. But as you get it on Vertigo swirl, which was their home turf at the time most of these songs were first released, still a very attractive variation. Audio shifts a little depending on origins. Larger part of the cuts, those originally released 1970-71, sounds exactly right - big, dark and perfectly clear. The later recordings - "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and "Am I Going Insane (Radio)" - come out somewhat brighter, but still enjoyable. I'm almost all in with the track picks they made from the original 2-LP version, just thinking that replacing the cuts from the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage albums with a couple from Vol.4 would have made it an even better exposé of the band's early years. Issued and reissued on every possible format all over the world through the years. Premiere UK on Nems (6641 335), US on Warner Bros. (2BS 2923). First Italian had labels as shown here in a single slightly structured cover. (WLÖ*) (BLÄC*) (ÖTALÖ*)
