THE ROLLING STONES/BETWEEN THE BUTTONS UK MONO LK 4852 VS. STEREO SKL 4852

Always took for granted mono and stereo here were separate mixes. But through the years I've also seen and heard people claiming the mono was a fold and those who were uncertain. Got three options - either all monos are folds, or Decca gave it the same treatment as "Satanic" where the 1st press mono is true and all the others folds, or all monos are true. Don't have any late mono at the moment, but comparing two first press is always a start. As usual when doing this I connected the channels on the stereo and begun by checking the intros and fade outs of all songs. "Yesterday's Papers" mono has about one sec longer fade out. "My Obsession" mono has more echo on the last drum beat. "Connection" mono is about six seconds longer with one more "all I want to do is to get back to you" after the "pararara" part. "Who's Been Sleeping Here" stereo has clear guitar at the end hardly audible on the mono. So separate mixes they are. I was convinced already at "Yesterday's Papers" since when you connect the channels on the stereo the balance gets rather bad whlie the mono sounds superb. And that goes for the rest too - mono loud and clear all through, fold partly muddy and unbalanced. That makes me think - if the later monos are folds they also must have altered the stereo mix. Find that hard to believe, but you never know...at least not till I find a late mono and finish the work. Till then I know mono initially was a separate mix and also strongly believe that was used for all subsequent UK mono issues. (RÅ*) (CPYC*) (MÅW*)
