SIREN/STRANGE LOCOMOTION EKS 74087 (-71) US

Band today probably most known and considered collectible for being Kevin Coyne's (1944-2004) springboard to solo fame. For more on his later development and adventures check post on his second solo LP - "Marjory Razorblade", or third - "Blame It On The Night". I like those a lot because of the open atmosphere. Both blending hard blues rock with peeled-off ballads - all with concerned lyrics executed by emotional vocals, giving a 100% honest impression. And that is exactly what I get from this the band's second and last LP. "Relaxing With Bonnie Lou", "Strange Locomotion" and "Fetch Me My Woman" heavy white blues. "Hot Potato", Squeeze Me" and "The Stride" dirty rock'n'roll. "Soon", "Some Dark Day" and "I'm All Aching" naked acoustic ballads. I hear well balanced between heartfelt and neat, a little less outbursting than on Coyne's later albums, but still very much connective. And the audio on this US press is a-ok, so all together very good listening. Premiere UK on Dandelion (DAN 8001), also originally issued on vinyl in Canada and Germany. 2014 UK 2xCD on Turpentine Records came with twentyone bonus tracks. Though with same label design and title as UK, this US is so different - with other tracking, track order and sleeve design - it can alomost be seen as a separate issue. Here "Gigolo", "Shake My Hand" and "Fat Moaning Minnie" were omitted and replaced by "Lillian" and "The Stride", which both can be found as bonus tracks on the UK Turpentine CD. First US had label as shown here in a glossy gimmick cover with picture inner. (YZÄ*)
