LED ZEPPELIN/HOUSES OF THE HOLY SD 7255 (-73) US
After posting an early UK release and being more than content by the audio on that I found this US original and thought it would be fun to compare the two. Both mastered by award winning Robert Ludwig - shown by "RL" printed on matrixes (probably the same mastering was used in both countries, but I can't say for sure) . Also "PR" on label and matrix say this US was pressed at Presswell, New Jersey, and "STERLING" on matrix that the mastering took place at Sterling Sound, New York. Since both (or this only) were handeled by Ludwig you might think they would sound exactly the same. Others who've listened say they can't discern any difference at all, but at least I hear the UK coming through a tiny bit smoother, while the US is a little sharper at the edges. However the disparity is so miniscule it may not be heard on all kind of equipment (I used a Shure M44-7 round needle for the check). Both having tophole audio making it impossible to choose, but the UK tend to be a lot dearer and if it's just good listening you're after and don't wanna cough up too much I recommend the US. They came with same kind of label design in the same kind of package - matt fold/out sleeve surrounded by a title "obi" and structured inner. First US issues had "Broadway" label as shown here.
