THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY K 22005 (-73) UK

Last decade I've seen CD compilations totally outcompete corresponding vinyl ones, as often a lot more comprehensive and easier to handle, which have lead to sampler LP:s now often can be found in the cheapest bins regardless of content or nick. This is very good news for us who prefer getting it analog closer to the fact. Myself I can never resist them when they show up for a buck or two in the shops. Always hoping to find odd cuts or takes, or if not just a piece of very good music. This has a very promising title and most of the acts are new to me. I do get good music, but also a couple of oddities. David Gates "Clouds" otherwise 45 only. Plainsong (consisting of former Fairport Convention member Ian Matthews and Andy Roberts from Liverpool Scene) "Goodnight Loving Trail" only showed up here before the 1992 Taxim CD "And That's That - The Demos". Don Argati "Bloodstream" from his one-off LP. In addition it's nice to hear Mick Jagger as background singer in Caryl Simon's "You're So Vain" (she has said in interviews the song isn't about him, but as rumour has it he was madly in love and almost stalked her at the time...so you never know) and also getting an original from Dennis Linde, the man who wrote "Burning Love" for Elvis. Mixes sounds pristine and the audio just fine all through. Good listening. Favorite tracks Caryl Simon "You're So Vain", Don Argati Bloodstream, Stardrive "Intergalactic Trot" and Dennis Linde "Hello I'm Your Heart". To my knowledge this was the only issue. It came with label as shown here and thin glossy cover. (SÄM*) (FÄV*)
