THE ROLLING STONES/TATTOO YOU 1C 064-64 533 (-81) GERMANY

It says a lot about a band's strength and width when they can yield an LP mainly consisting of reworked spurns from earlier sessions and then reach top ten on lists all over the world both with that and the spawned 45:s. As the story goes lack of time made it impossible to record all new stuff for the album that was meant as support for their upcoming tour. So they dug in the vaults and found stuff originally rejected - from the recordings of "Goats Head Soup", "Black And Blue", "Some Girls" and "Emotional Rescue" - which were revised and polished till sounding new and fresh. Album divided into two parts - side one rock'n'roll and side two more gentle. For me this is mostly about side one. Six very good rockers and even if building on leftovers from somewhat earlier efforts showing they still had it. For side two only track I'm returning to is "Waiting For A Friend". Great ballad that would have added considerably to the originally intended "Goats Head Soup" if it'd been allowed to replace the mushy "Angie". So for me no less than seven favorite tracks. It could have been the start of a rock revival for the band, but though the 1983 "Undercover" had a couple of good moments it took to 1989 before they rocked this hard again with "Steel Wheels". I'll get back to that later. Been looking for a premiere US or UK for some time, but as this German has the same package and sounds really great my search for those is now officially over. Issued and reissued on every format all over the world through the years. First German had label as shown here and fully laminated cover with picture inner and lyric insert. (RÅ*) (GÖXÄ*)
