CLOGS PS 1 (-72) UK

UK folk sampler. Most from B&C and Pegasus labels, recorded 1967-72. This is from the early days of English folk rock, far from the later boom where the genre was mixed with pop and up-tempo, leading to high charters and big sales. Many of the tracks are covers of folk songs and the versions faithful to originals in vocal style and use of instruments. The oddest number is Steeleye Span doing an a capella version of Buddy Holly's "Rave On", the rest more traditional. The Martin Carthy/Dave Swarbrick cut originally from a 1967 Fontana EP and "Rave On" a single only release, all others are album versions. There's a bundle of rare stuff here. I've given up trying to get the first press issues making this is as close I can get on vinyl. Favorite tracks - Shirley Collins & The Albion Band "Murder Of Maria Marten", Tim Heart and Maddy Prior "I Live Not Where I Love". Don't know of any other releases on vinyl or CD. This came with thin matt cover and picture/ad insert. (SÄM*)(BRYF*)(FÄV*)(SÖPX*)
