WILSON PICKETT/THE WICKED PICKETT 587 057 (-67) UK MONO

For background check my post on his debute - "It's Too Late". It's interesting comparing the 1966 recording with his first. All that makes this a great album - the right-on intention, his power and vocals - was there already three years earlier. The difference lies in production, arrangement and sound. 1963 he was ahead of his time, but as a debutant forced to rely on the contemporary musical context. What you hear on this is a rising star with albums and singles on the lists world wide. He is in charge and the backing and studio work is a mere support to the act. It's very nice power soul, all dance numbers and including some of his biggest hits - covers of Mark Rice's "Mustang Sally" and Solomon Burke's "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love". Produced by Jerry Wexler (1917-2008) - the man who coined the "Rythm & Blues" concept and worked with aritsts like Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin. Engineered by Rick Hall and Tom Dowd (1925-2002), both legendary producers and engineers. This mono sounds beautiful - big, bold and absolutely clear. Premiere US on Atlantic (SD 8138/8138). Early UK with label as shown here and laminated cover. (ÄTHP*) (PÖC*)
