FEVER TREE 73024 (-68) US

Texas band, existing 1966-70, with brief success in the late sixties. They had one '45 hit - "San Francisco Girls" 1968, reaching #91 on Billboard and the three albums got to #156, #83 and #97 respectively. Don't know much about the group, just posting a reminder of a very good debute album . Listening to it today I'm very surprised they didn't do better on the lists. Up-tempo psych, melodic orchestrated ballads, good vocals and guitars, all perfectly produced and arranged. Most songs written by group members toghether with producer couple Scott & Vivian Holtzman. High quality all the way crowned with top audio. IMO one of the best US albums of the time. Many of todays rarities didn't sell back then because it wasn't good enough, but that's not the case with Fever Tree. They were up there with the periods most successful pop/psych acts and it's a mystery it didn't go all the way. Favorite tracks - the heavy "Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out" cover, "Imitation Situation 1", "Where Do You Go" and "San Francisco Girls". First UK on UNI (UNL/UNLS 102) also in mono. Haven't heard that, but since the original stereo was a compatible I guess it's a fold down. Re-issued by Sundazed on vinyl and CD (LP-5318/SC 6284). Early US had label as shown here, thin glossy cover and "Meet Fever Tree" inner. (YZÄ*)
