SONNY BOY WILLIAMSON & THE YARDBIRDS MG-21071 (-65) US MONO

Recorded 1963 during a Sonny Boy Williamson club tour in England where he was backed by UK groups at different occations. Issued two years later to cash in on the growing fame for The Yardbirds. The first release wasn't a big seller and has later become a cherished collectors item. It seems the most popular issues today are the German on Star Club (148 015 STL) and the UK Fontana (TL 5277), both changing hands for big bucks. For some reason this US Mercury mono, also rare by now, isn't as popular among collectors. So if you don't care about exactly where it was made and just want a good show with best possible audio, it's recommended and you will probably get it for a fraction of the price paid for the others. For me just wanting a well sounding early original mono on vinyl it's perfect and I don't have to bother with the dearer variations. Also as re-channeled stereo (SR 61071). I guess the one shown here is an early press with ridged label and thick glossy cover. (YÄB*)(LYBÖ*) (YZÄ*) (ÖXCÅ*)
