WISHBONE ASH/WISHBONE FOUR MDKS 8011 (-73) UK
Follow-up to the beautiful and successful "Argus", but not as good. While that can be described as a theme album with an overall soft folky atmosphere, tied together by production and well written tunes, this is more incoherent. Two cuts - "No Easy Road" and "So Many Things To Say" reminds of contemporary Savoy Brown boogie rock and "Doctor" sounding like a faster and rawer version of "Time Was". The rest appears a lot like the "Argus" cuts - harmonic ballads with bright vocals and good guitars. Their first three albums are still lovely to my ears with a unique combination of catchy songs, top performance and lots of emotion. Some of the magic remains on here, but it's clear the original feeling was starting to deteriorate. Favorite tracks - "Ballad Of The Beacon" and "Sorrel". First US on MCA (MCA-327). Premiere UK had label as shown here, matt fold/out cover and large picture/lyric poster.
