PETER SELLERS AND SOPHIA LOREN/PETER AND SOPHIA PMC 1131 (-60) UK MONO

The soundtrack that wasn't a soundtrack. As the movie "The Millionairess" became an international success George Martin instigated the writing of the song "Goodness Gracious Me", produced a recording of it with the films leading stars Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren and then offered it to the film makers as part of the soundtrack. It was declined, but they were happy to use it as promotion for the film and it was released as a '45. At the sessions a few other recordings were made by the couple - "Bangers And Mash", "Fare Thee Well" and "I Fell In Love With An Englishman" - and two by Sophia alone - "Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo" and "To Keep My Love Alive". These all show up on the album together with a bunch of Sellers monologues and humoresques. It's a mishmash trying to cash in from the success of the movie without having much to do with it at all, except using pics from it on both front and back cover. And that was probably allowed as a thanks for the promotion help 20th Century Fox got from the big selling "Goodness Gracious Me" single in the first place. That song is the only reason I'm keeping the album. It's funny with a kind of timeless quality, while the rest is long past expiration date. Sophia Loren wasn't a very good singer and the lyrics and monologues that brought big smiles in the early sixties wont do it today. Early US on Angel Records (S/35910) came with different cover and tracking. First UK had label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover. Also released as stereo (PCSM 3012).
