THE WHO/WHO'S MISSING MCA-5641 (-85) US MONO + STEREO

I don't usually go for compilations showing up twenty years after the cuts on it were made, or remastered ones. This being an exception from both. For three of the recordings it was the first issue ever. Two 1965 studio takes - "Leaving Here" and "Lubie (Come Back Home) - and a live take of "Bargain" from 1972. Three were previously unissued in US - "Shout And Shimmy" (B-side of UK "My Generation" '45), "Barbara Ann" (from the "Ready Steady Who" EP) and "When I Was A Boy" (B-side of UK "Let's See Action" '45). The version of "Mary Ann With The Shaky Hand" appearing here is the one using electric guitar and an organ solo by Al Kooper towards the end, different from all album versions. "I'm A Boy" is the original recording for the first time on LP. "Here For More" was B-side of "The Seeker" single and " I Don't Even Know Myself" B-side of "Won't Get Fooled Again". "Anytime You Want Me" was B-side of the US "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere", UK had "Daddy Rolling Stone". Six of the cuts are mono, five stereo. All compiled and remastered by Steve Hoffman and the audio is surprisingly good. Many later remakes got a kind of glossy unnatural sound, but the cuts on here remains authentic and as they were - only cleaner. I don't think I've ever heard a better "Barbara Ann" on vinyl. First UK on Polydor (837557-1). Premiere US had label as shown here and glossy sleeve with back cover text by Pete Townshend. (WÖH*) (YZÄ*) (ÖXCÅ*)
