GODDARD LIEBERSON 1911-77 XSM 163966 (-77) US

Can't find any further info on this object anywhere, so most likely it was manufactured by Columbia Records for indoor use only. Lots of stuff to go through, but I'll try to keep it short. An album made as an epitaph to the former CBS president Goddard Lieberson. British born who after moving to US as a kid, following a period of learning classic piano and writing in magazines, started working for the company 1938 and eventually became the main responsible for introducing the long playing record in America from 1948 and on. He was elected president of the company 1956. Not going into the rest of his mostly interesting whereabouts here, just the fact that he was one of the forces behind the LP as we know it is enough for attention and acknowledgement. This album is superduper quality all the way. Shaped as a book contained in a very thick, hard structured cover with glued on image of him and gold print. Inside there are thirty pages with facts, homages and hundreds of pics of him, family and a large number of the artists he met through the years. There's also an LP with a soundtrack from a movie shown at a celebratory convention held in London after his death, including jazz and musical numbers mixed with speaches by celebrities as Leonard Bernstein and Dick Cavett. Not one I'd keep just for the music involved, but it's great to have all those images and the historical value is indeniable...at least for this old LP freak. (YZÄ*) (ZÖNT*)
