TASTE 2384 076 (-71) UK

Shortlived Irish three-piece rock band that only released two studio LP:s before breaking up 1970, due to guitarist Rory Gallagher (1948-95) going solo. For more on all that check - https://monolover.blogspot.com/search?q=gallagher . This budget collection, issued after-the-fact by Polydor, contains a mix of tracks from those albums and offering a blend of soft pieces and heavy blues rock. It was a while since I spun the originals, but hearing this now I'm reminded what a great rock band they were and also feeling sad they didn't visit the studio for just one more mutual album at the time. Have to admit I'm not entirely into the calmer stuff here, but enjoy the heftier songs all the more. With those I hear early hard rock, before the genre got streamlined, still deep in dirty blues with a cornucopia of mean exquisisite guitars to tight backing in an atmosphere more Iggy & The Stooges than Zeppelin. Very connective and should do it for fans of hard rock, blues rock and early punk alike. Favorite tracks - "Blister On The Moon", "Sugar Mama", "Eat My Words" and "Sinner Boy". The audio is a-ok and if you don't want to spend a lot on the two UK originals this comes as a much cheaper alternative, offering a lot more than just a taster. 1971 release in UK only, also on cassette (3192 223). Spanish 1981 as "Gigantes Del Pop vol. 12". Dutch 1982 as "The Best Of Taste" (HO 17). Premiere UK had label as shown here in a thin glossy cover. (GÄG*)
