ARETHA FRANKLIN/LADY SOUL 587 099 (-68) UK MONO
Her twelfth studio LP, today regarded as a soul classic. It has sold millions, been included on a number of "Greatest Albums..." bills through the years, with the three spawned singles - "Chain Of Fools", "Since You've Been Gone" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" - all reaching top ten on various lists and by many today seen as classics by themselves. And listening today over fifty years later it's close to perfect for this old fan of US sixties soul. I get memorable songs, sung by one of the best over tophole backing in lovely mono with super audio - strong and clear. I could go on stacking approving concepts for a long time, but you've probably got my drift already - I think it's a great album. Apparently also Eric Clapton was there playing guitar on one of the tracks. Maybe not pivotal for the album as a whole, but good to know. Issued and reissued on all possible formats all over the world through the years. Premiere US in both mono and stereo on Atlantic (SD/8176). US stereo CD on Rhino came with four mono takes as bonus tracks. First UK had label as shown here and laminated cover. (FÄV*) (ÄTHP*)
