GENESIS/INVISIBLE TOUCH 207150 (-86) GERMANY
The band's thirteenth studio album, issued three years after the eponymous "Genesis", which in its way signified their transition from prog outfit to pop band. That proved to be a very prosperous move leading to million sales and the record landing on top or very high on lists all over the world. This was even more successful, among other things earning 6x platinum in US and 4x platinum in UK, with five spawned singles all reaching top five on Billboard, thus making it their most popular work ever. Taking in all that triumphant info about it I'm starting to feel there's something seriously wrong with me, cause I don't like it that much. OK synthpop spiced with some progish input and dramatic in its way, but it don't get to me like some of the other post-Gabriel issues do. Far from the beautiful "Wind And Wuthering" and in my world even less catchy than the subsequent "We Can't Dance". What saves it for me is Phil Collins' like always touching vocals plus a couple of the melodies - e.g. "In Too Deep" and "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight", but the whole package way too synthy for my ears. All that said...it is Genesis and therefore a keeper for better or worse...and still better than much other contemporary stuff...so on the plus side nevertheless. Issued and reissued on every possible format all over the world through the years. Premiere UK vinyl on Virgin (GEN LP 2), US on Atlantic (81641-1-E). First German had Charisma logo labels as shown here in a thin fully laminated cover with embossed structured hand and picture/lyric/credit inner. (GÖXÄ*) (GYÄ*) (CÄX*)
