GEORGIE FAME AND THE BLUE FLAMES/SWEET THINGS SX 6043 (-66) UK MONO

Started in the early sixties as a backing band for Billy Fury, but Fury thought their sound was too jazzy and replaced them with The Tornados. Fame took over the lead and for a couple of years they became one of the most successful British acts. The Blue Flames went through a number of early settings with personnel like Mitch Mitchell, John McLaughlin and Jimmie Nichol. Out of eight entires on the UK list 1964-66 they reached #1 with two and three more on top 15. This was the groups third and last LP together. It's not really R&B, jazz or rock - more well arranged contemporary "Swinging London" pop - much reminding of his friend Alan Price's two first albums or the Tom Jones act of that time. Standard covers with nice backing and overall warm and cozy feeling. Produced by Denny Cordell (1943-95), one of EMI:s top studio guys. He was the mentor of Tony Visconti and produced a number of classic hits - Procol Harum (Whiter Shade Of Pale), Joe Cocker (With A little Help From my Friends), Moody Blues (Go Now) and many others. The cover doesn't say who made the orchestral arrangements, but I guess a co-work between Fame and Cordell. Issued in mono only. First US on Imperial as "Get Away" (LP-9331) replaced "Dr Kitch" with "Get Away". Early UK with label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover. (MÖRS*) (FGÖ*)
