STEVIE WONDER/GREATEST HITS STML 11075 (-68) UK STEREO
As a UK sixteen track stereo version of a US twelve track Motown original (here Tamla TM/TS 282) this issue reminds a lot of the Four Tops "Greatest Hits" I posted a couple of days ago. Both with big selling Motown artists, having enhanced track lists adjusted to the British market and exclusive sleeve designs. And as with that this also has a couple of my earliest Motown loves - here "I Was Made To Love Her" and "Uptight". But there ends the similarities. While too many of the stereo mixes on the Four Tops issue were so bad they hadicapped the songs and made them almost impossible to enjoy, the majority on this actually works fine providing pleasant listening. A couple slightly cought by the treble bug that sometimes contaminated crammed compilations, but considering eight of the cuts were recorded 1963-65 it's quite good audio anyway. As far as I can hear "Fingertips Pt.2" is the only fake, the rest true two-channel. Continuing my search for a mono, but until I find one of those this will be quite sufficient. Favorite track - "I Was Made To Love Her". Also originally issued on Tamla Motown in Austalia (STMLO 11075), Greece (720 28) and Germany (ZL 72023). 1993 EU CD (530212-2) came with same tracking. Premiere UK had label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover with EMI/Motown ad inner. (TÖMÖ*)
