THE SCAFFOLD/LIVE AT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HALL PCS 7051 (-68) UK

For more on the McGough/McGear duo and releases under differing names and settings check this link - https://monolover.blogspot.com/search?q=scaffold . This was their second LP and first as "Scaffold". A live performance recorded at Queen Elizabeth Hall 1968, produced by Norrie Paramour and Tim Rice, arranged by Mick Vickers (Manfred Mann) and backed by Dave Mason (Traffic) among others. With all those great names involved you'd expect something extra to come out of this record. And it sure seems to have been an appreciated appearance - audience is all in following evey move and thers's lots of laughing and applauding, but for me listening fifty years later it's not that rewarding. Only good music on it is a live version of their "Thank You Very Much" hit, the rest mostly talking. Apart from some melodic mocking I hear comic monologues and poetry reading. Certainly a part of English Music Hall tradition and though I don't understand some of the jokes it's still charming in its way and as a mirror of late sixties British creativity and humor a keeper for sure. This vinyl was UK only, also as mono (PMC 7051). Japan CD on Cherry Red (ACMEM63CD). Premiere UK had label as shown here in a laminated flip/back cover with EMI ad inner. (LYBÖ*) (PÖX*) (MÖK*)
