THE ROY WOOD STORY SHDW 408 (-76) UK
In the serie of compilations posted here I've come to one of my favorites. Always a Roy Wood fan I dig almost everything he did during the period this album covers 1965-74. Starting with one from his first group - Mike Sheridans Lot - going on with all UK Move singles (produced by Jimmy Miller, Danny Cordell and Mike Hurst), top numbers by ELO and Wizzard, and last side having the best from his solo carreer. There's so much good music here - top melodies in all fashions, powdered with positive intentions and lots of fantasy. Wood was a multi-instrumentalist and on many of the solo tracks here he provided all instruments, vocals and production himself. Can't pick a favorite cause I love it all, but late Move singles "Tonight" and "Chinatown" and solo '45 "Goin' Down the Road" (raggae rocker with bag-pipes) are outstanding. High quality issue with fully laminated f/o cover. Not all in with audio on all tracks, but most of it sound ok or a-ok. You do get the original mixes - all dedicated. Highly recommended to lovers of good pop and rock. (SÄM*)(RÖWS*)(HÄVL*)
