THE ANIMALS 33SX 1669 (-64) UK MONO
As it was the British pop invasion to the US in the mid-sixties just happened. But had it been a plan, it must be regarded as one of the most genial ever. The recipe was simple - pick songs from the US songbook, bring them home to England, re-package and sell back dearly to the Americans. The Animals started out as a part of that movement. This album is filled with covers of numbers, written and earlier performed by US artists. I don't mean that makes it bad, on the contrary. When the guys treats the material here they turn it into something new. It's raw and dirty, sometimes reminding of US black blues, but still in a more pop-friendly wrapping. The blues is made a little more commercial and pop somewhat more dangerous - it's the perfect marriage. As a debute it's stunning - very mature and driven. Issued in mono only. Producer Mickie Most as reliable as always and the sound is perfect. Released in US with different cover and tracking as mono and re-channeled stereo ( MGM E/SE-4264).First UK had label as shown here with "Recording first published...", laminated flip/back cover and EMI inner.
